Chemo-Chair
The complex needs of patients, parents, and nurses in pediatric oncology are fulfilled in this dynamic seating solution. Specifically, hydration, surface, and power were the three main opportunities for improvement identified during preliminary research at the Massey Cancer Center in Richmond, VA. By incorporating a built in surge protector into the arms of the chair, patients are able to charge different entertainment devices during long outpatient chemo therapy sessions as well as powering IV pumps for nurses. Chemo-Chair also incorporates a built in desk surface into its design. The sliding track system that interfaces with the surface comes allows for the table to be slid into its best location for the variety of different sized oncology patients. The surface also helps nurses stabilize patients arms during IV draws. Lastly, Chemo-Chair incorporates a cup holder into its arm to encourage patients to be drinking water to expel the toxins that are taken in during treatment.
