Shadow Mash
It is popular, especially in Calgary, to allow as much sunlight as possible into our buildings. This project takes complete sun penetration as a given and imagines how shade is a useful part of our interior lives. Several large trees dominated this site, their shadow shape throughout the seasons inspired the wing-like forms. The interior layout is driven by the shadows created by the wing-forms. For instance, the Television room is in the most shaded area.
