In order to contextualize this project you need to take a trip back in time to 2004. 3 years before the iPhone came out and the greater share of the population had access to mobile data.
My goal at the time of developing my senior thesis project was to create an access point for important information like trail difficulty, weather, nearby emergency services, etc. that could be accessed remotely at the trail head. In this era it would have been a very useful tool to hikers.
