Bauhaus Door Handle Project
In the design of my door handle, ‘the Lodge’, I wanted to explore how appearance of an object alone can influence people’s feelings. One of the most important functions of a door handle is to bolt the door and guard the interior. Thus, the design of ‘the Lodge’ is intended to create a sense of security with its chunky and heavy shape. The wooden material brings in the element of nature to enhance the primitive style and provide users with the feeling of being protected. The contour of the design is extremely simple, even crude, creating a sense of weight and volume, which essentially amount to a trustworthy impression. Moreover, the square cross profile gives users a full and firm grab of the handle with a touch of reassurance.
