laser cut acrylic seam allowance guides

A custom laser cut 1/16" clear acrylic ruler that I developed.

I wanted a small seam allowance guide that I can use when I am drafting and flat patterning and needed to add seam allowance. I saw that Drtiz offers a similar tool for quilters but in metal, and I wanted the ability to see through it, so I can see the pattern underneath.

Each edge has varying measurements (1/16",1/8",1/4",3/8",1/2",5/8",etc) for the major seam allowances or increments I would use when patterning.

The grids feature a 1/16" or 1/8" increment in both radial and perpendicular grid setup.

I developed the vector file to be laser cut in my fabrication lab on campus with Solidworks and then exported to Adobe Illustrator.

The first version has the grid not coinciding with the edge, the second version I adjusted a few positions of the grid and edited the distribution of the points and measurements.
