THE PHONE CELL: A CURE FOR SMARTPHONE ADDICTION People problematically procrastinate too much on their phones which can be disruptive to their lives. Being slaves to these devices creates Stockholm syndrome. Who is really in control? Intended for severe addicts, The Phone Cell aims to put an end to smartphone addiction and tests the willpower of it’s users.
LOCK IT UP – A linear actuator (similar to a solenoid used in car locks) deactivates when the user completes their target and scans the Cell Key into the Phone Cell. The actuator pin slots into the hole in the lid to lock the device.
DONT FEAR. STAY CONNECTED – A female usb port allows the universal use of the Phone Cell. The user’s smart phone syncs and charges when plugged into the device.
WAKE UP FEELING FRESH - The alarm is set via the Phone Cell app. The data from the app syncs to the Phone Cell. The speaker allows custom music to be played through the product.
YOU’VE ONLY GOT ONE CHANCE – Similar to a ‘snooze’ button, the bail button temporarily disables the alarm. The alarm will resume in 2 minute intervals after the bail button is pressed. However , every instance after the button is pressed, the Phone Cell will emit an eary sound until the alarm is turned off manually via the phone App.
A DIFFERENT TYPE OF ‘KEY’ – To open the Phone Cell , the target set by the user via the app must be complete and the Cell Key can then be scanned on the product to unlock the actuator pin.
EMERGENCY? KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON – In case of an emergency whilst the user’s smartphone is locked in the Cell, there is an option to call user assigned emergency contacts (up to 3 contacts + emergency services). These contacts can be set via the app). Communication is made via the microphone and speaker at the front of the device.
VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE – The Phone Cell comes in a variety of different colours depending on the consumer’s preference. The accent colour pieces are injection moulded separately to the rest of the product which allows a cost-effective way to apply colour to the product.
