FEA Analysis
This was a project that I did for a close family friend that wanted a hole in his ceiling in the shape of a 68 inch wide octagon. This hole would be covered in a clear acrylic sheet. He wanted me to figure out how thick the acrylic sheet needed to be to support the weight of people walking on it. I decided that a factor of safety of at least 3 should be necessary so no one falls through the floor. With this decision made it was determined that the acrylic sheet needed to be at least an inch and a half thick.
