Ruma Tenun Batak
Lumban Suhi-Suhi Village in Pangururan, North Sumatera is a small village in Samosir Island that rich of Batak’s culture and tradition. This village is the one and only craftsmen weaving village in North Sumatera area and become tourism attraction. Lumban Suhi-Suhi village produce many kinds of Bataknese Weaven, but the flagging of weaving activity also impact this village. The production decreased and there’s no next generation of weaving craftmen.
Ruma Tenun Batak is expected to conserving Bataknese cultural and handicraft weaving village in Lumban Suhi-suhi by keeping and introducing the weaving craft in the form of galleries and weave museum. Ruma Tenun Batak also expected to give education-tourism experience for the visitors by the living museum concept.
In the future, by the grow of Bataknese Weaving, we hope people or especially Lumban Suhi-Suhi Village can give birth a new generation of weavers, to preserving the cultural heritage and craft of Bataknese weaving.
