OPLA - COMFORT IN THE SUBWAY

Awarded by Core77 Design Award

Sponsor Project with Royal Technologies

In collaboration with Royal Technologies, This studio MFA Class explored the concept of ‘comfort’ within the context of seating.

The Opla seating concept aims to bring both comfort and efficiency to subway systems as ridership continues to climb with each wave of new urban transplants. The leaning position makes it faster, easier and more convenient for both individual riders and groups. The minimal footprint of each unit also provides spacial efficiency with more room for standing riders particularly during rush hour.

A simple structure allows easier maintenance of the seats. Foot rest and over-molded silicon bring comfort and traction. The height control system that allows customization for different sizes of users. The spring loaded lock that clicks inside the structure of tube allows easy adjustment with one button.
