The back also has a slot for crash shears.
The back also has a slot for carrying up to three pairs of XL nitrile gloves.

On the back is a carrying handle so that when the pouch is detached it can be carried to the casualty if need be. Often the first thing needed when dealing with a casualty are gloves and shears to cut away clothing, hence the reason for putting them on the back. Easier and quicker to access that way.
