aROUND INTIMACY

Studio Project. Exchange student in the School of Planning, Construction and Environment - Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning, TU Berlin.
Location: At the southern point of the Friedrichstadt neighbourhood in Kreuzberg, Berlin, Germany.
In World War II the area was completely devastated by an air raid on 3 February 1945 and the following Battle of Berlin. From the 1960s the Mehringplatz was redeveloped as a pedestrian zone in the centre of a large subsidized housing estate.
Friedrichstadt is an historic neighborhood. The combination between the historical road network and the historic buildings makes this area unique within the city structure. Mehringplatz's round structure is especially different in the local cityscape.
Despite it's unusual form and large scale, Mehringplatz gives a sense of Intimacy. The project aROUND INTIMACY emphasizes this aspect by playing with proportion and changing visual boundaries.
