The Hex Perplex

A pixel-sized 2D platformer game with a steep difficulty curve. For this project I wanted to use color as the game's core mechanics. You play as a wizard who can harness the power of spellbooks that they find through the castle of an evil power. Based on the color of the book, the player can harness one of three different spells. The player can then use them to interact with switches and walls of the same color. The early prototype lacked any spellbooks and allowed the player to use all three spells at once, but this made the learning curve a bit too complicated, but also made certain levels too easy if the player is skilled. There was also no sound at all. These were addressed in the final version (2.0).
