Digital Camera - The first major assignment I had the pleasure of taking part in at Sheffield Hallam University. The brief was to design a bicycle light or a digital camera based on the form of an object of our choice. The result was a digital camera which was inspired by the visual qualities of bones. The form was achieved by analysing real bones through drawing and moulding plasticine, morphing prevelent characteristics into a final design.
Chess CAD project - The first ever CAD assignment I ever did. The end result is based on triangular forms which were cut in various different ways to give each piece it's own character.
Chess project - The complete board with all the pieces
DVD recorder - The primary aim of the project was to make the DVD recorder as easy to use as possible from the moment it is taken out of the box. The aim was achieved through a lengthy process of model making, exploring different ideas then honing the more promising ideas until the following solution was developed. The Scart lead and Adaptor lead are joined together from the unit to a reasonable point before the Scart plug and Adaptor. The leads wrap flush around the unit. When unravelled the remote control is revealed in in the side of the unit. The remote control can then be slid of the side of the unit ready to use. The first advantage of this concept is the simplifying of setting up the DVD recorder (only two plugs to plug in). The second is the flexibility of the unit. The small size, coupled with the ability to stand the unit on its side, means a greater choice of spaces the user can place the unit. The compact size and the unique way the unit is packaged requires less protective exterier packaging resulting in a reduction in waste if the packaging is thrown away.
