You arrive, take the short walk to the door and step into the warmth of hvild. Come rain or shine everything is here for you. You store your coat in the wet locker and enter a relaxing weekend.

In the North facing wall you will find a small hideaway protected from the sun and the breeze coming off the sea. It offers you a place to hide in the shade or even to watch the rain fall onto the beautiful hills in the distance. If you'd rather stay indoors, the relaxing window is a spot to sit and watch the world go by nuzzled in the warmth of hvild
The bi-folding doors open out onto the beach, perfect for a barbecue or even just to feel the sand between your toes
hvild is a self contained unit, it collects and stores its own electricity using solar cells on its roof. The cells, mounted on a South facing slope slope, also aid water collection. Water, waste and gas tanks are stored under the East section of the dwelling.
The dwelling regulates temperature based on your settings using a series of windows above the bi-folding doors and small portholes on the North facing wall

hvild - Seamill Beach Dwelling

This project involved designing a dwelling for two people situated on Seamill Beach.

The dwelling is called hvild which translates from Old Norse as rest (Seamill Beach was the site of the largest Viking landing in the British Isles).

The space is designed to be a place of rest and relaxation for two young professionals. The open plan nature gives a feeling of space whilst the multi levels separate areas by their function.

As well as housing solar cells on its roof hvild collects and stores rainwater, contains a storage tank for waste and two gas bottles to fire the oven and gas hobs. hvild also features variable tinting glass for privacy and under floor heating for the comfort of those inside.
