Early sketches and models of the Tree Ring focused on the form looking into what was comfortable to hold and how the user would interact with it.
The tree coming out of the centre of the Tree Ring is used to symbolise the felling of the rainforests.
The body of the Tree Ring would be CNC machined from FSC sourced Beech
The final version of the product features a tree that degrades over time eventually falling out of the Tree Ring.
This changes how the product feels when the user interacts with it. The once smooth surface is changed to a hole symbolising the loss of the trees REDD is working hard to protect.
