Agriculture is an integral part of Macomb's culture both past and present. Out of all crops in the area corn is often the most prominent. The color yellow hearkens back to those agricultural roots.

The purple, while on its own may not mean much; when combined with the yellow offers a glimpse of symbolism back to the university. The blue and green are both colors very strongly associated with nature and wildlife, but also business and commerce.

The agricultural side on the left gradually transitions to a woman's silhouette on the right. The silhouette being a strong representation of the people that make a community and in turn a community foundation possible. Finally, the transition between the two symbolizes a connection between people and the agriculture they cultivate.
