Final year university project aiming to fight the ongoing ‘Super Bug’ problem in the UK in 2007.
‘Hand washing is considered to be the single most important intervention to prevent nosocomial infection’ - Department of Public Health, Istanbul Medical Faculty. Jan 2002
Research carried out over the 90’s showed that among Healthcare workers, improved hand-hygine was sustained across most healthcare professions with the exception of male physicians.
The project explored opportunity for creative and systematic development, producing ProBug; a body-worn reusable hand disinfecting device supported by a communicative colleague-assisted reminder system.
As well as targeting the basic areas surrounding the problem, ProBug is unique with the influence of its ‘Busy Button’ system designed to enforce hand-hygiene at the most critical times of care. The result was a product that offered an affective solution to attitude, forgetfulness and time, whilst providing reassurance to patients in care.
