Seven against Thebes
When I read the Seven Against Thebes, the tragedy by Aeschylus, and got to the part of the description of the shields, I had the idea for a graphic rendition of the story. The words of Aeschylus’ characters paint vivid scenes, and the narrative nature of comic strips would bring them out of the realm of the imagination.
