The taxi takes its areas!
Name of the project: MINI ROAD STATION 0904.
According to the descriptive guide of outside architecture for the inventory of Canadian historic buildings, the code 0904 means a road station and corresponds well to the definition of our concept: (…) Buildings used as places of arrival and departure for the passengers and\or for the goods transported by the road …, in our case, on a smaller scale.

Two base-beacons, situated on the road, at the entrance and at the exit of the taxi parking places, complete the whole waiting station set. They offer a protection to the taxi drivers against automobiles in circulation. For us, this is a vital design feature, that concerns the users safety. We think that this aspect was neglected in the contest.

We thus propose the concept MINI STATION 0904, a friendly and secure nest adapted to the needs of the taxi drivers in wait and to their clientele. It consists of a modular and mobile geometrical structure of rectangular plan including a rounded overhang roof, supported by two pillars. The set, easily recognizable, protects the taxi area (road) and the waiting area (road-sidewalk).
Name of the project: MINI ROAD STATION 0904 - The advantages of spreading our structure towards the road are multiple: in winter, it avoids the snow clearing of taxis. In summer as in winter, the waiting station is then perfectly visible and offers a protection to the driver during the ingress egress activity. Indeed, an articulated and removable reflective beacon is fixed to a ballasted, but mobile, shock absorption base. This base is covered with contrasting chevrons.

The station roof covers its base, temporarily fixed to the road, and a little more than half of the width of a standard sidewalk. This allows the circulation of the pedestrians and the snow removal between buildings and waiting stations, while offering a covered space with a seating for three individuals, a trash can and a futuristic multifunctional column.

The multifunctional column,
(similar to Space 1999 Alpha moon base's communication post) situated to the right, includes the following elements: electrical power supply connector for taxi, on the face towards the road; information on the Montreal taxis, maps, interest points for tourist on the outside face; a telephone, lockers, a stoves for coffee and diverse information on the inside.

The post is then easily locatable. A lamp embedded under the roof completes the lighting system. The structural systems which support the roof are provided with a device which allows to easily insert the mandatory sign panels of municipal road marking.
