The challenge for this project is to design an app and a responsive website that parents use to enroll their kids in after-school care and pay for the service. I used to work with Right at School as a Program Manager and also was a Special Education Classroom Assistant (SECA) with CPS in Chicago. Having strong ties with staff, parents, and students, I was able to get an idea of how to help parents navigate through the process easily, not only in registering their child but also in checking in and checking out students.
When doing research on the competitors, I know in Chicago of Right at School and then the other competitor is After School Matters. I understood a lot how Right at School operates as I used to be a Program Manager with them. I wanted to do an audit to see how After School Matters operates and handle their programs with teens and their resources.
When coming up with the colors, I want to make sure everything is clear but yet can still be inviting. Yellow is considered a fun, attention-grabbing color (Splashed with orange) and I want to balance that with the buttons being purple. The background will stay clear so that everything can be fun at for the overall design while also not taking away from what info is given and shown. I also made sure to stay with two fonts.
With my work history in education, I know with parents they had a difficult time in figuring out how to find a way to create their own PIN code. That was because then the icons did not have any words next to them ro the icon wasn't clear on what it is, even if the parents were able to find the email detailing what they need to do and prepare. I made sure to create the icon and also the text next to them to show users what the icons are in their account.
It is good to ask parents questions so that whoever is leading the after-care program will be prepared in taking care of the specific child who has a need. That is why the questions asking about allergies, needs, and being fine with pictures is written to being aware of what the parents want from the program.
