PRELUDE
Artistic composition, brief, introduction to another pattern. Originating as short lines that were to establish the key of a following pattern or to fill brief interludes. Their origins were often reflected in rhythmic freedom and runs. A section in this pattern would often lead to a closing section; in time this turns into a separate movement, and the randomness came to be paired with order.
