Before I started with Sketching and form development, I compiled a mood board of inspirational materials. I wanted to create a fun and unique playful experience, and looked towards many different universes as a source of inspiration.
I initially started sketching forms based on vehicles from the military due to action mans rich history of incorporating these. However I quickly moved forward into designing a two part vehicle that would act as spaceship and a vehicle.
I wanted to create a unique story and have great play value, so creating two vehicles would provide this, my thinking came by looking at the star wars drop ships. Therefore, I created a drop ship system, where action man would fly to mars in a spaceship and drop of a vehicle to scale the terrain.
The final spaceship is designed to utilise the drop ship feature, and therefore is designed to hold a second vehicle on its hull. The vehicle is a single man pod, and possesses treads for greater mobility and a drill to allow drilling to take place.
