Umpire Protective Cap
This was a special project for Major League baseball. Umpires wanted a protective helmet that looked like their current hat. We developed a specialized impact material to allow for a much thinner profile, mimicking the fit of a baseball cap as much as possible. Like a baseball cap, this helmet would come in standard cap sizes. We 3D printed this sample with a carbon fiber reinforced plastic that allowed us to test the helmet at impacts up to 100mph.
