Two Dimensional Vortex-Induced Vibrations Test Rig
I worked as a research assistant at the UMass Fluid-Structure Interactions Laboratory where I designed and built a test rig to use with the existing water tunnel. They study vortex induced vibration of cylinders and wanted a new test rig to observe the vibrations in two dimensions unlike their previous test rigs which only allowed movement in one. A test cylinder is then attached to a free floating fixture with four air bearings on glass plates and four springs. All parts are adjustable for different test setups and to insure the air bearings move without friction.
