Sensor Mounting Bracket

I designed, analyzed, fabricated, and tested a mounting bracket as part of team-based class competition sponsored by Sensata Technologies. We used SolidWorks with ANSYS finite element analysis to design a bracket that would support a 200 kgf test load, and calculated the deflection at the sensor’s location. The final prototype was waterjet cut and welded O1 tool steel sheet, then we heat treated and tempered the steel for strength. We received the top ranking in the class, for producing the lightest bracket (0.67 kg) that held up under testing and accurately predicting the bracket’s deflection (within 0.04 mm).
