The Reading Terminal Market - The way the market looks on the average day, people everywhere.
This Is Design: Map - Showing a plan view of the This Is Design show at the Reading Terminal Market. A, B, and C point out the three areas of the show. Area A is an unused deli stall with glass cases and stainless counters. Area B is the back wall of a stall that backs up onto a seating area. Area C is an unused stall with two walls and an elevated floor.
Reading Terminal Market - The entrance view of Reading Terminal Market. Thousands of people filter their way through the market each week making it an ideal location for a design show.
Show Sign - A view of the entrance sign I created for the show. Being a student show it was ideal to be low budget although still constructed with craft in mind. Craft, detail, wonderful!
Sign Detail - Detail shot if the entrance sign. No budget for fancy lazers, everything was cut by hand and then assembled. Everything is about craft!
Lost In Translation - One of those "lost in translation" moments in design. The top image shows the intended design for the entrance signage. The sign was split in two for transportation and intended to be returned to a whole when hung.
Deli Case - This shows how the deli cases of area A were delt with. Cardboard[the building material of choice] was used to construct the main structures of the show. The lime green color was used through out the show the help direct the viewers[as it was not a color already found in the space].
Counter Space - The counter space within area A was used for the electronic presentations. Viewers were allowed contact with the computer mouse while the computers themselves remained behind glass.
Deli Space - Another view of the deli space.
Area B - Area B is the back wall of a vendor stall. The wall backs up onto a seating area for visitors. The information in area B was to be displayed somewhat different[Area B was reserved for students of the masters program]. To denote this difference the wall was covered in folded sheets of cardboard. The folding created shelves to display books.
Area B Detail - Showing the detail of area B. Continuing with the lime green color, information was screen printed onto the cardboard. Lighting behind the folds in the material allow for an accent light to shine through.
Before and after, Area B - The wall in the far center of the top photograph was used to make the display in the bottom photograph.
Before and after, Area C - The space in the left of the top image was turned into the the display shown in the lower photograph.
