Refining the Spork

In an assignment to redesign the spork for Sophomore ID, I concocted this spade-like utensil using our allotted polystyrene plastic. I researched proper eating technique and etiquette to produce an implement that would conform to them in the same fashion as existing flatware. Processes that went into the project include dry and wet sanding by hand and machine, as well as sawing both the styrene and some wood to create a mold for the piece. Thermoforming also played a role to produce the cup of the spoon. The result: a spork designed to feel at home on the dinner table.
