CDC Sludge Sampler Design
Our graduate studio worked with the CDC to develop new concepts for sampling public latrines in developing communities around the world. Our primary design goals were to design something that travels well, collects a larger sample than the existing method, and can be cleaned in an autoclave.
The current model developed by CDC researchers is taller than most people, making travel difficult and autoclave sanitization impossible.
After interviewing members of the CDC, and doing market research on similar types of liquid samplers, we sketched concepts and developed a working prototype.
