By putting as many windows throughout the floorplan, the design was meant to allow for maximum light throughout all of the rooms no matter where in the house a person was located.
The entryway was designed in an "A" shape to add a point of interest in the architecture from the outside. Because of the narrow shape of the entryway, large windows were added to the side of the of the shape to create a more open feel and allow light in.
In order to maintain structural integrity due to the upper floor protruding over the lower floor, I added a beam in order to "reinforce" the structure.
A close up of the upper floor balcony to show the openness of the bedroom and detail in the door and glass panelled balcony.
An interior view of the entryway. In order to keep the floor plan open and reinforce the "floating" stairwell a glass and metal panel is extended from the wall underneath the landing.
Continuing the open layout, the kitchen was made open concept with an island for eating with a sink and dishwasher and cupboard space along the opposite wall.
To, again, keep the floor plan open. The ceiling was reinforced with beams that are left uncovered to add detail and interest to the room.

Sketchup House Model

A project to fully design the exterior and interiors of a small scale building. The difficulty with this project was my lack of practical architectural knowledge so in order to design the building I pulled from my experience in looking over floor plans of apartments and what I learned from taking a hand drafting class.
