I inherited a garage full of electric fans from my uncle who had an antique store in San Francisco. The fans age range from the 1900 to 1930s. Major manufacturers of the fans I have are GE, Westinghouse, and Emerson. This is what they look like before restoration.
Restoration starts with glass bead blasting all metal parts. The parts are cleaned and prepped for paint. The brass parts are all dipped in ketchup to take off the years of oxidation and then polished by hand and buffer.
Fans are painted with either car paint or lacquer. The paint is applied with a HVLP spray gun. Some pin striping is added by hand if the model calls for it.
The motor and switch are cleaned and rewired with new cloth covered wire.
