Before visiting The barbican I created these 3 very simple yet striking images based on pictures I found online. These designs set the art style of what I would later create. I believe the fact that these designs look a bit like circuit boards contributed to my decision to create a Cyber Punk world.
These 5 sets of images show how I translated photos that I took while at The Barbican into very flat and visually striking designs. I was mostly looking at the interesting shapes rather than realistically recreating the scene.
This is an extension of the 4th set of previous images. I used the same colours and shapes but turned it into a futuristic Cyber Punk scene. Comparing the images side by side clearly shows the progression from real world photo, to an artistic interpretation of shape, to a new environment entirely.
I applied the same process to the third set of pictures to create this design. I very much enjoy how much life I got into this scene, especially when I animated the environment in the GIF below.
This is where I wanted to try and create something completely new. Using the process I had learned from the previous designs, I composed a new scene and at a much larger scale. At this point I had also started thinking up and including various world-building elements such as brands and social structures which certainly brings life to the scene. Unfortunately since the scene isn't based on an existing image, I find the layout to be less interesting than the previous 2 designs.

University Project - Cyber Cities @ The Barbican

One of the first projects we did at University was to visit The Barbican in London and use it as inspiration to create a game world. I decided to create a Cyber Punk world based on the striking architecture of the building and combined that with bold, contrasting colours to create a unique visual experience.
