ELLA - Capturing the dripping water from wet umbrellas and using it to grow grass, ELLA creates a stimulating, fun product to help brighten up otherwise uninspiring entrance halls
ELLA - Overview - ELLA is an umbrella stand which aims to bring a smile to people’s faces by capturing the dripping water from wet umbrellas and using it to grow grass contained in its base
ELLA - Features - As the water drips from the umbrella it flows down the inside of the stand, through the perforations and into the base, feeding the soil and allowing the grass to grow
ELLA - Details - The product is made from three moulded acrylic pieces. The handle and funnel screw into the base and the soil containing fast growing grass seed is then planted inside
ELLA - Development - Colour variants were explored in Photoshop once the shape was finalised but the subtle clear design worked best due to the already “in your face” shape of the product
ELLA - Concepting - Continuing the fun theme by deciding to make the stand look as if stuck in the grass, the main concept exploration was around how close to stick to the umbrella aesthetic
