Puma Shoe Studio - This was a five week project in which I designed a shoe for Puma. The final design is a casul-sport shoe; comfortable enough to be worn to train, and stylish enough to go with anything. Light and sporty, the same model can use different color schemes to amuse both male and female.
Modular Office Furniture - With this project, the idea was to make a more efficient and comfortable work space. Based around one central pivot, two tables can rotate around to any position. A separate table holds your computer, allowing the larger tables to rotate around without involving any cables. The filing cabinet is also mobile, allowing you to transport everything needed to various meetings with ease. This is also used as an extra seat in your office, freeing up valuable space when no visitors are present.
Honda Snowmobile Project - This snowmobile offers diversity in riding style, size, and comfort. A central pivot underneath the seat allows the rider to adjust the seats height and length according to their particular riding style. The seat can be raised and lengthened for a more aggressive style, allowing the rider to stand up more and lean into the controls. It can also be lowered and moved forward for lengthier cross-country rides where the rider is seated longer and needs more protection from the windshield.
Honda Snowmobile Project - I chose to design a snowmobile for Honda because they currently do not have one in production. I created a sled that is totally unique from anything currently on the market, both in form and function. I added aluminum torsion-bar suspension to offer durability and strength, as well as comfort and an unmatched ride quality. By using the aluminum torsion-bar, I also created an extension of their current brand identity, spawning from the exposed aluminum frame on their motocross line.
Caterpillar Bulldozer - This project touched close to home since I worked as a bulldozer operator through school. In my approach, I designed the bulldozer around the basic needs of the operator. With the most important aspect of the job being line-of-sight to the blade, I moved the cab forward and the engine to the rear, supplying power through drive shafts to the hydraulic pumps up front.
Caterpillar Bulldozer Project - With the design of this bulldozer, I was focusing mainly on the operators line of sight to the blade, as well as the overall safety of the operator. I moved the main diesel engine to the rear, offering more sight to the crucial blade area, as well as adding 360-degrees of vision around the cab while still having a very effective ROPS safety system.
Woodworking Studio - For the woodworking studio, I designed a chair with function, followed by form. The curved chair-back cups your back for straight forward sitting, while curving along side of you for either an arm rest or a perch for that "oh so cool" slouching position. The base is made of solid maple, held together by mortis and tenon joints, while the back is made of a bent solid maple veneer.
12 Hour Design Process - These projects were both 12 hour studies. We had 12 hours to design the product, and then build the models in Rhinoceros. The first product is a slide-open cellular phone. The second is a rubber bracelet-watch for Oakley. Both models are done in Rhino.
Volkswagen Beetle - For a Volkswagen Beetle Studio, we were asked to update the redesigned Beetle to appeal to a younger audience. Since we weren't allowed to change any sheet metal, I made a more aggressive front and rear fascia while still keeping it neutral enough to appeal to a broad audience.
Volkswagen Beetle Exterior - Without changing any sheet metal, I needed to give the Beetle a face lift that would appeal to both men and women of any ages. Volkswagen's original target audience was the entry level driver, but their initial sales were only attracting the older consumer for its nostalgic feel and memories of the original. I made the front and rear fascias more aggressive and mirroring eachother, remaining neutral yet more fast and fun.
VW Beetle - Lifestyle Bag & Interior - Volkswagen wanted the Beetle to be more than just a form of transportation, but a real part of the owner's life and a true representation of who they are. To accomplish this, I incorporated a bag in the seat back that can be removed and taken w/ the owner. The bag models the shape of the beetle, and shares materials with the interior. With the interior trim, I wanted to bring a touch of the exterior inside, just with accents of color and different materials on the dash and seat inserts.
VW Beetle - Roof Rack Concept - In polling VW Beetle owners, we found that they are extremely active. While the Beetle has a comfortable interior for passengers, there is not a lot of space for gear. I created a roof rack that mimics the shape of the car itself. These locking archs pop in and out of a rail system that runs along the perimeter of the roof. This allows them to be completely modular in order to fit anything from a bike to a pair of skis, while popping right out to be stored in the trunk when not in use.
